Hey guys,

I'm having an issue where I'm trying to connect 3 remote worker phones at a location, but I can only get 1 of them to fully connect at a time.

I'm running IPO Essential Edition on 9.0.2. and using 9608 phones.

The other 2 phones are contacting the call server and when the display comes up the buttons are not in the proper place, and I don't get an extension name or number. I also don't get dial tone on it. When I unplug the working phone it then allows me to connect one of my other ones.

If I leave the working phone at the remote site and take one of my other phones to a different site with internet then it can connect. But only 1 of them again. If I try a second one then it gives the same result as above.

Since I'm able to get multiple phones working from different sites it makes me think it's a network issue at the remote site, but I'm not sure. They don't have firewalls set up on either end so that's not the issue.

Any help would be appreciated!

It's due to the way Avaya implemented the Remote Worker feature....not very well. We never found a solution to this issue and ended up building site to site VPNs to get around it. To prove it wasn't the router we had a few Mitel remote phones working over the same connection and they had no such issues :-)

Thanks for the reply amriddle01. I was wondering if that's what we are going to have to end up doing.

Would I be able to set the 9608s as VPN phones without having to get any additional hardware? I think I was told at one point that they have something built into them that allows them to connect as VPN phones without needing anything extra. Not 100% sure though.

The 9608/9608G/9611G/9621G/9641G have integrated IPSEC VPN software. You would need a VPN appliance on the IP Office side to terminate the VPN tunnels from the phones.
