Hey everyone,

I'm shopping around and found that Congent has really low bandwidth ($1000/month for 100Mbps fiber connection). Has anyone or does anyone currently have a link with Cogent and how is the quality of it (latency, reliability, etc)?

Thanks,
Burke

We actually used Cogent in one of our markets as our data transport carrier with my last company. We happened to be an ISP ourselves that provided 100mbps access to our customers, so you know that link was very helpful for us. They only offered that flat monthly fee with "unlimited" bandwidth in select locations at that time. Unfortunately, I was not in the market that had the Cogent circuit - but I can tell you that they seemed pretty happy down there. I dont recall any problems they had, and I remember being quite jealous because we were stuck up here paying a ton more for an OC-3.

I would check and make sure what the CIR is that Cogent advertises, and their guaranteed up time. If you are not sold on them, ask your sales rep to give you some referrals of their current customers. Even ask the rep if you can take a tour of their POP/CO/NOC. You wont believe what you can get out of Sales these days. The economy is bad, and they are all scraping the bottom of the barrel to get a sale. If he is smart, he will do whatever it takes to get you to sign. Take advantage of it....

just a suggestion, but I would check out MCI, they have a lot to offer, I used to work for them as an internet systems engineer, and the pricing should be good right now while they come out of financial trouble.

They have all type of configurations and setups that can be specific to your network needs.
