Is Win 2000 worth it!?

I've been runnign Windows 98 happily in one form or another since it was released. I've had numerous oppertunities to move to ME but thought it wasn't really worth it as gettign drivers etc. isn't quite as easy (it's getting better all the time though...). But I've noticed that a lot of you seem to be running Win 2000. Why!? Is it better that 98 SE? If so how!?

I know a lot of people say that it's more stable that 98 and ME which is a plus, but there's also people who are saying that from all the benchmarks it scores about half as much as 98/ME. So what d'you reckon!? Should I go for it?

I realise this could be the beginning of a huge debate that's probably already happened numerous times, but if anyone could give me there opinions I'd be very grateful!

I don't think ther would be a hugh debate on this win2k is faster when it comes to networking (but BSD is faster) but some games have problem with it so if you play games it might not be right for you it is stable (thanks to sp1)it seem to do it best with notebooks it great there, and it a little faster on the pc then 98. but it all comes down to you what do you it for. For my needs i use Mac's, linux ( eserver by cladera)win98, win2k, me and a server with bsd on it because i need them for differnt things. so if it office work go with win2k it you like games stay 98. at lest thats what i think So long and thanks for all the fish.

As gunthnp said, depends what you want it for. Win2k is based on NT technology, so doesn't have Dos underneath like Win 9x. Therefore if you need Dos or play a lot of games which directly access harware (NT and Win2k don't like that)then Win2k is not for you. If you want a stable system and want to run standard software and hardware then maybe. The best advice if you are thinking of it, is make sure you have or can get Win2k drivers for whatever hardware you want to run it on.
