way around buying retail? The prior admin used registrations for two inteties of the company I work for to subscribe and then deployed the 2003 Office Pro software in just the one needing software. If I was audited would this pass? Thank you.

No - you cannot use an Action Pack in ANY production environment. It's for training and evaluation. Once you need to put something into production, you're supposed to buy they retail/open/OEM version (whichever applies). Open licensing would probably fit the bill for you.

How can I use the software provided in the subscription?
The software included with the subscription can be used for internal business use, testing, evaluation, demonstration, training, and educational purposes only. For example, you can use the Action Pack software to host your company's intranet but it cannot be used to host a commercial website. This is considered a production environment that is outside the scope of the software's intended purpose.

I always read Internal Business use as your companies production enviroment.

I'm still a little fuzzy on this. Internal business use would be workstations on my network so it's okay? If it's just for testing and evaluation why the permanent keys on the Office products and others?

I should probably get the answer straight from the horses mouth but I was just curious how you folks viewed this. Seems screwy to me.

I understood it to mean, you could run your business on this software.

Actually maybe this sums it up better.

How does the software licensing work?
The Microsoft Action Pack Subscription License Agreement provides the benefit of using the Action Pack software for internal business needs as well as evaluation, demonstration, testing, and education. To learn about the proper use of the software, please read and understand the Microsoft Action Pack Subscription Initiative Addendum .

Okay, I'll check the paperwork and interpret it the best I can :D. Thanks.

I understand the savings aspect but I want things done right too.

Call them. As an MS Partner, we've been advised it's not for any production use - internal or external. You can use it for testing & eval.
