is this dvd drive broken?

my samsung 612 12x dvd drive does not recognize dvds at all. it plays cds and runs programs from cds just fine but simply does not recognize dvds. i installed powerdvd2.55 so the software is there, so does this mean the dvd drive is busted and i should return it? or is there another explanation.

I think you need PowerDVD XP 4.0.


They have alink to XP patches for earlier versions but say 2.5 is not supported on XP.
The two rules for success are:
1. Never tell them everything you know.
