We use VFP 6 here at work. I have a user who is trying to enter data into a table thru a command button. However when the user attempts to add a record, the following alert box pops up: Cannot lock box master table to establish the new box number. Click the Add Box control again in a few seconds.

We think that someone else has the box open (maybe for a long report, just plain forgot to close the app or the app itself failed to close the table).

Question is, is there any way to determine who has what tables open? And if so, how do we close the table?

You can sit down at the server and run one of the NET commands to find out who has what files open.

That said, just running a report shouldn't be locking files up for that long. It sounds almost like someone is getting the file opened exclusively. But since that isn't a standard VFP message, there's no way to tell for sure. It's something in your application or framework.

Thanks for the replies! It's about what i thought. IWe were able to fix the problem with a reboot of the users pc. Apparently the app hosed a memory location, never releasing the resourse.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the server the tables reside on. And our network guy gets really busy. But like I said, a reboot fixed the problem. We knew the table wasn't openned exclusively because another user was able to run the same app, and add a record without any problem.

Again thanks for the replies!
