Ever since I upgraded from win2k my pc drags. Im running a P3 535mhz with 256 of RAM. I will be updating the board soon to a P4 or a 2400 AMD. Anyone know of anything to be done to speed this thing up. I know XP installs alot of things running in the back ground.

Regards,
Bryan

This may just be the after effects of an upgrade to XP rather than a clean install of XP.

If you have just installed XP your drive may need to be Defragged. Running the Disk Cleanup tool will help too.

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any errors.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Type MSCONFIG in the Run Box to see what is loading at start up.

Try disabling any unrequired services that are running in background.

More memory will make a difference, but honestly, you'd be pushing it with a 500mhz machine. It's bad enough on a 800mhz - 1.2ghz with the same amount of RAM.
