Is ssh required to use sftp in 5.0.6?

I'm having to switch from ftp to sftp on OpenServer 5.0.6. Anyone know if installing ssh is a requisite to using sftp?

Yes, sftp uses ssh2 as part of its data connections, it does not use the ftp daemon.
