Is something wrong with my floppy drive?

Hello,

Here is what is going on...

My A:/ drive is not listed in My Computer, but it is listed in Device Manager and it does say that the device is working properly. If I go to "Start > Run" and type in "a:/" a box pops up and says "The system cannot find the device specified." Also if I open up My Computer and type "a:/" in the address bar a box pops up and says "A:/ is not accessible. The folder was moved or removed."

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to locate the Drive in the BIOS? It could just be lose or unpluged.

i think the solution is simple :

TYPe A:\ in the address bar !!!

not a:/ as u mentioned in the post!

If the cable connections look ok, then make sure that the FDD controller is enabled in BIOS, and that there are no problems with the FD controller in Device Manager.

If that's ok, then press and hold the Ctrl key during startup, select 'Command prompt only', press Enter, insert a floppy that contains data, type A: at the C:\> prompt, press Enter, type DIR at the A:\> prompt, and press Enter.
If you cannot see the contents of the floppy, then connect a different power cable to the FD.
If no luck, then try a different data cable.
If still no luck, then see if the drive works on another system.
If it fails to work there, then replace it.

If you can see the contents of the floppy at the command prompt above, then remove the FD from Dev. Mgr., and restart the computer.

Make sure that the A: drive is using the plug at the end of the floppy cable if there are two plugs. The plug before the twist is for a second floppy drive, (B

Sometimes it is possible to install the plug upside down. make sure the red line indicating pin one is going to pin one. (Usually the pin next to the power plug)
