orypecos,
As Lawnboy stated there are several other Linux distros that are free firewalls and many do use Snort for the IDS.
I have downloaded several including Smoothwall, mOnOwall, F.I.R.E and one from the Honeynet Project and have played with them in a security lab setting. You can "Google" free firewall or Linux firewall and see lots of links and reviews.
I always bring up IPCop because it is the one I am using at home with FIOS and before that my DSL connection and I have been very happy with it. The documentation is very good, the community supports it well, in fact I have added some of the add-ins for a even more custom firewall/IDS.
I also use Zone Alarm software firewall and either Norton or AVG anti virus on my actual PCs for a layered approach to security.
Just my thoughts !
