Is reverse DNS required for a domain

Hi

I'm trying to set up a DNS for my own domain. I think I have the forward one working but then I got to the reverse domain I ran into some questions.

I only got one IP address from my ISP and am not in charge of a whole C-net that the reverse would cover. Should and could I set up a reverse domain? Do I need to have it at all? Is it the responsability of my ISP?

You cannot (in theory) have a reverse domain that doesn't cover a whole class network. And yes, it's your ISP's responsibilty. Just ask them to do it.

Classless Reverse Zones do in fact exist and you need to work with your ISP to find out a couple of things.
1. Can they delegate that IP to you for reverse
2. What do they want you to use as a filename

Once they have delegated that IP to you then you simply create the correctly named reverse zone.

Now because you have only one IP it would not be practically possible to do this. If you had a /30 or above it would be possible.
