Will ADO.NET make ODBC basically obsolete?

ADO/OLE-DB compliant databases are more common and much faster to access that using ODBC.

I am not sure about the equivalent standard to ADO in J2EE. There must be an alternative to JDBC.

Are there any thoughts on this?
