Is my CAP module dead?

The system had 3 CAP modules (each on a different phone) connected to the system and working.

Last night I added a 4th CAP module to an additional phone with it's own SAPS. All seemed to be working, but this morning I get a call that CAP module on the operator station (x210) has gone dead.
No arrows like when the unit is syncing up - dead.

I thought the system could support 5 CAPS (per the docs)

None of the modules are "programmed" as a CAP station - we aren't using them for lines.

Any suggestions to why it went dead?

TIA

Should always program the DN under CAP anyway regardless of lines or not.

Yes you can have 5 CAPs

Maybe just a power issue or connection....or because you didnt program the DN's of the CAPs?.

Have you checked the connection at the MDF? Sometimes when adding pairs to the mdf, like what was done here, another wire may have become loose. Hopefully you've tested for that already, but I wanted to make sure you have.

We all need a little help once in awhile. Tony the Phoneman..

You may not believe this, but I've proven it to myself and at one time Nortel agreed. Some KLM's need power on one pair (not counting the blue/white for the extension) and some need power on two pair. Sounds silly, but it works sometimes.

I had a case where the cap module went dead that was caused by the SAPS going out. if you check the SAPS it may feel too hot. If so I would look at all the cross connections carefully. next I would suggest opening up the pair and verify that there is an open on the pair. you may have a marginal short (from crimping or pulling on the wire) that is causing a pretty good current draw that only appeared with time.

Power only needed on 3rd pair for 2nd CAP on same phone.
If 2nd pair needed for one CAP then there maybe a distance issue between phone rm and set.

Also make sure your connections are clean at the mdf. We've got a few customers who beleive in "do it yourself", but don't want to invest in a punch tool, or proper training. They'll cross connect with a screwdriver, leaving a little shiner past the pins. They short out, or short to another pair, and call us to replace the damaged equipment.

Would've been cheaper to call us directly for their moves.
