I have a Asus A7V266-E mobo with via chipsets. Its the first board out with these chipsets, which are already 2 years old...getting to the problem: Ever since I tried to use the third slot for the memory, the computer eats memory in the 3rd. slot, and now, I cannot get the cdrom or dvd burner drives to opperate. XP pro detects the drives, and trys to install them, but always gives me a message that it could not find the drivers and gives me a code 39. Microsoft reports in the help that the drivers may be missing, or corrupt. I tried to manually install them from downloading them. I also made sure that the drive letters where included in config.sys: lastdrive=z.
Online Microsoft reports that it could be the chipset.
What is wrong? Can anyone help me through this problem?
Thank you very much,
Bob

I don't want sound biased but your problem is its an ASUS. Sorry but nothing but trouble for me.

hello rreinman,
Have you installed the drivers from the utility cd that came with the mobo? You might want to check and see if there is a more recent bios update for your mobo at ASUS site. Also, I have been using ASUS boards for many years and I find them reliable.

I had the A7V266 board for about 1 1/2 years. And i never managed to use 3 sticks , only 2 worked .
