Is mirroring on NW5.1 reliable ?

I´m going to get more HD for one of our nw51 servers and it´s a Proliant ML330 which doesn´t support hardware raid, is mirroring through netware the way to go ?

mirroring works fine

obviously hardware is the way to go but if unavailabloe then this is ok

remember though it's not mirroring dos only netware partition

will writing to disk become a lot slower ?

no - you dont notice it

only issue you may get - is if it abends or anything then the mirror may get orphaned
this is very easy to fix and quite often does it - itself
a mirror status at the prompt will tell you if it's ok

and as i say it's not a dos mirror so make sure that you create a booteable dos partition on the 2nd drive and copy the nwserver dir to it and remember if you sp the server then you will need to recopy changes

but the disk is only an additional disk in the server which is going to contain images and stuff. Do I still need a bootable dos partition on it then ?

with you - these are additional additional - not the only 2 in server

in that case no - just ignore all the crap i've wrote above
