Hi All,

We have a server that is running Windows 2003 Server Standard edition. It should be running Enterprise edition. Is this a simple upgrade (i.e. run the setup from cd and let it overlay the existing os)or do we need to start from scratch?

I've searched around, but cannot find the answer.

Thanks!

Do you have many applications running on this server or important data stuff (i.e. is it important)? My guess you will need to reinstall just to be safe. I think i have tried to run an upgrade in the past and you get an error message.

What HW do you have? If you have hot swappable Raid1, you could pop 1 disk and have a crack at upgrading, but this may fail.

You can upgrade standard to enterprise, I've done this a few times. Just insert the enterprise cd and run the setup, you will get the option to upgrade.
The only problem I ever had when I did this was that the upgrade didn't pick up the RAID controller driver and I had to point the install to the drivers directory, this was on Dell hardware. That was the extent of the 'problems' I've had.

Obviously have a full backup and I also recommend having the latest firmware applied to things like the BIOS and RAID controllers.
