How can i create a master user profile on my server so that all the users i create on the server that log onto the domain will have certain drives shared and certain shortcuts on the desktop?

-Dave

I dont know if it's possible, but worth a shot asking!

THANKS!

As for the drives you need only implement a login script that maps the drives.

As for the user desktop you can control this with Group Policy in AD or System Policy on an NT 4 domain. There are settings in the policy that will allow you to redirect the desktop to a location on a server. You can even redirect the start menu.

Basically you would create a shared folder (say called Desktop) and add the shortcuts you want the users to have in this folder and give them read access. Then you can redirect the user's desktop in the policy to point to this folder.

I hope that answers your question. Yes it can be done! :)

I guess let me put this another way. I have a server and about 80 computers. I dont want to go around to half of them and set up a shared drive on ALL of them.
I'm wanting to know if there is a way to have an account have all that set up the way i want it when i create the user.
Right now i have them all set up individually. We have a whole batch of new users coming in (around 30) and i dont want to have to go around to each of their indiviual computers and set up their shared drives, etc. Plus we have students that like to change everything. I realize i can go in and lock down the desktop, etc, but i want to create ONE account on the server that has the stuff the way i want it, and use THAT account as a template for certain users.

????? Once again, i may just be dreaming.

1. open a text editor
2. use the command line NET USE {driveletter}: \\servername\share
3 Save the batch as filename.bat
Move the bat file to the \\winnt\sysvol\sysvol\domain\scripts folder
4. In the users profile, the login script box, specify the filename.bat

For different users create different bat files and associate them with the users requiring the map drive.
