Is it legal and will i be able to activate it if i install one copy of winXPPRO on a pc and a laptop.

Howdy:

No, it's not legal and you will only be able to activate it on one system. Just read the EULA.. One copy of XP to one system install.

As a side note to anyone else who may read this. If you purchase a full version of Office (not OEM), then it can be installed and activated on 2 machines. Supposed to be desktop and laptop, however i'm not sure how closely MS can monitor whether your 2nd machine is a desktop or laptop??

Let me deal with the urban myths involved in this thread.

You license for XP as an operating system does not include installing it on your notebook computer, your Home computer, or any other computer.

Not. There has never been an exception for the client software of the Operating System, although it is very widely believed.

Greg Palmer raises a slightly more subtle issue. XP has (as does Win2k) and offline file feature. You can install Office in this context as a way to assist with offline files. You may not install Office because you have a second computer. What will trip you up in this setting is that the OS rather affirmateively tells you there is an activation issue.

The Office Suite just beningly disables random features, such as the ability to save a file or print one.

I am having an off day today, sorry Bill! :)

Here are some links to clarify my post.

Take a look at however Office XP allows for a second installation on a portable device for the exclusive use of the person who is the primary user of the first copy.

In general, Windows XP can be installed on one PC and Office XP can be installed on one PC and the laptop computer used by the user of the one PC. (For specifics, please see the EULA accompanying your product.)
