Is is possible to recover oversized .pst file 1

I have a user who came to me with the problem of his personal folders not opening. On looking into the problem, I found that he had a 2.07GB .pst file. As such, I can't open it to split it up. Any suggestions (other than sending out to a data recovery company)?
