Just purchased an Emprex DRW10161M, DVD 16x Writer, First thing i did was updated firmware to A07R
I'm running Nero 6.6.0.8.Ultra Version.
Problem is Nero recognises my drive but only as a DVD 4X write & will not allow it to write DVD -R or +R at anything above 4X
I'm using a TDK 8X -R and DataWrite 8X +R Blank Disks
Running the Nero DVD speed test still only shows the drive as a 4X drive. Pinnacle Instant DVD bundled with the drive also only shows 4X
Any Ideas???

Hi,

Turns out from looking around the web that the Emprex DRW10161M appears to be a rebadged BTC unit, details can be found at:

& details on compatible media:

Another thing to check is that your ASPI layer exsists date, download this one first:

Once downloaded unzip the file and extract it to a location of your choic. At this point do not run [b[aspiinst.exe[/b]Use the aspichk.exe file to determine your ASPI layer, if you either no ASPI drivers or they are less than version 4.6 download the file below:

Follow the instructions to install the 4.6 ASPI drivers, to be on the safe side reboot the system. Once your back in Windows run the aspiinst.exe found in the file you downloaded from Adaptec.

One installed reboot the machine again. The ASPI layer may or may not help, if not let us know and we'll scratch our heads again.

Tried installing the ASPI drivers just as you instructed, Now at
ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2 WOWPOST.EXE 4.6 (1021) WINASPI.DLL 4.6 (1021) WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2
only problem is...Nero now sees my drive as a 2.4X speed drive

Icefield....hotting up!

What OS are you using? XP SP-2 needs a new version of Nero. Also, many "burner" programs are coded to run with certain hardware. Is your copy of Nero a commercial purchase, or did it come with a "burner"?

Running XPHome with SP2, Nero was a commercial purchase

Hi there,

Well I'm quite happily runnig the version of Nero that was installed before I upgraded to XP SP2! What do you know that I don't?

Icefield, what version of Nero are you running? Check out and see if there are any available update at:

Within Nero there is a database of supported writers, this may need updating.

Your listing of ASPI drivers now shows that you are fully up to date. However do a search for wnaspi32.dll once you've found it (it should be in C:\Windows\System32) right click on it and select 'Properties'. Select the 'Version' tab then 'Company' under 'Item name:'. The details should show it as being the product of Ahead and not Adaptec. If it isn't the Ahead version it should be found in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero. Copy and paste this version in to C:\Windows\System32. If you want to be on the safe side before you copy (never move) it over rename the old version.

Hope this is of further help.

Regards,

Bring up Nero. On the opening screen, look at the bottom/right for the "flame" icon. Click that and you can see what version you have, and there is an "update" button to click on to update.
