Due to a hardware failure, I installed a rackmount web server that had Server 2003 software as the new domain PDC, AND installed Exchange 2003 on it. The hardware is overtaxed. Email response is very slow and other problems.

There are currently no BDC's in the small 6 server 25 PC domain with VPN users all Win2K Pro and XP pro.

Before I waste a lot of everyone's time, is it feasible to install a new Win2K server and have it become a BDC, and then remove the Win2003 PDC? Will it work? What problems will I encounter? Is it worth the effort?

Or, should I just install Windows 2003 server software on the replacement box, make it a BDC and then remove the rackmout box with Exchange on it.

I can install Exchange 2000 on another server where it used to run just fine before.

Thanks

Your best bet would be to move exchange. You can do this by simply installing exchange 2000 [sp3] or 2003 on a member server, then movemailbox, and go through the steps to remove the first exchange 2000 server in an administrative group.
