is DOS gone?

i'[m getting into programming on my shiney new machine that came with XP home edition. Is DOS now gone from the XP operating system? If it is gone, is there something i can install so I can run DOS?

MS-DOS is gone, but you have "shell" type access to a command prompt interface. It won't behave 100% the same but many functions can still be used. By default, it's in Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command prompt.

FOllow up if you need more help.

Ooops... you can also just select Start -> Run and type CMD.
