Excel 97 and earlier have a bug in cut or copy and paste that the edit buffer is cleared as soon as new data is entered. Has this bug been fixed in more recent releases?

In most Windows applications the data in the edit buffer remains there until overwritten by a new copy or cut operation.

in excel 2002 (office xp) you can paste for ever until overwritten by a new copy or cut operation and then again ...

Hi jimbackus,

I think you will find that Excel continues to work the same way it always has in this regard - there has been no change. As Pagat says you can paste to your hearts content, but if you then hit enter then the contents of the clipboard is no longer available. As you suggest this is different to Word and other apps in Windows.

You call it a bug, Microsoft probably call it a feature! I have seen some discussion on this in the past but cannot remember the details - sorry.

Good Luck!

Hi guys,
MS really improved the office clipboard - in 2k you can keep up to 12(?) items, up to 24 in XP. After hitting ENTER you still can paste, but with menu or toolbar button.
Moreover, with office clipboard you can paste any of elements it stores - via office clipboard panel.

combo.

You could always invest in Clipmate, I've found it a lifesaver on occasions. for more details.
