Hi Everyone,
I want to set up a very basic domain at the office, with one Win2k server as a domain server, with about 8 win2K pro clients... can I do this by promoting the 2k server to an AD server without installing DNS?

Thanks,
Trevor Farren

M$ states that DNS is needed for AD. This is true, but it does not have to be running on the DC. If you have a seperate server set up as a DNS server, you should be able to promo the server to AD.If no server running DNS no promo to AD.

HI.

You must have DNS for AD to function.

If you don't have a DNS server at the time of AD installation (DCPROMO) it can be installed and configured automaticaly.

If you don't have DNS or you point the server to the ISP DNS servers, then AD will fail to work.
