I have a quick question and I am hoping to get your professional opinion on.

We are currently using a Cisco 2651XM with 2x WIC-1DSU-T1 cards to connect our Colo and Corp office with 2x1.5 PTP T1’s. I am going to be implementing Qwest’s QMOE (Ethernet) product (1GB connection at 100MB) and replacing our PTP t1’s. I will also be adding XO’s Ethernet product (100MB connection at 100MB).

My plan is to run both of these connections simultaneously, so if one connection goes down, I am still up and running. Right now I don’t have a full 100MB of traffic running over both of these connections. I am getting by @ 3MB for the time being.

Now to my question… would the Cisco 2651XM be sufficient enough to handle both connections? Can I get a 10/100/1000 WIC card for the 2651XM (need it for the QMOE 1GB connection) or can I run this connection on a 10/100. My plan was to purchase another 2651XM for our new office, but I don’t want to buy hardware that isn’t going to be scaleable or work efficiently.

I appreciate your input.

According to the Cisco specs, the 2651XM can deliver up to 40000 pps. Therefore your achieveable throughput could be anything from 20mbps up to 480mbps! In reality, you'll get something in between given the variable packet sizes flying around your network.

Thus the 2651xm will cope with your existing load and will continue to be scalable for some time I'd have thought.

The 2691 can have Gigabit capability through the NM-1GE module but I don't believe you can use this module in the 2650's.

However if your Gig Ethernet connection is presented as RJ45, you should be able to use this without a problem in one of your integrated 10/100 FE ports.
