We have an older router that we are swapping out with a newer one (Cisco 805 Router). I have the 805 configured like the other one with the exception of one entry in the configuration that the 'show run' command shows me. The line reads (numbers instead of x's):

ipx routing xxxx.xxxx.xxxx

and then the next line is interface Ethernet0.

I can't seem to be able to get the ipx routing line to show up on the configuration of the 805 when I do a 'show run.' What do I need to do. I am totally new to configuring routers.

what version of IOS are your running
(it's in the output of the 'show version' cmd)
your 805's IOS may not support IPX

that is not to say that the 805 router itself (hardware) cannot support IPX, that just means that the software version currently on the 805 doesn't support it.

usually the IOS shipped out on 8xx's come with either the IPPlus or IPPlus-Des-Fw feature set (OS). This is because 8xx's are typically installed in Remote Offices to connect them to the Internet or connect them to the Internet and a VPN to the Central office. You may have to order the correct IOS feature set with IPX support for your router.

The version is 12.1. I was mistaken before on the 805 not having the line:

ipx routing xxxx.xxxx.xxxx

It does have this line. I just don't know how to change it. Also what does the following mean:

These are listed under the interfaces:
no cdp enable
no ip mroute-cache

This is before the interfaces:
ip subnet-zero

thats just the mac addy of your router

remember ipx (80 byte addressing)

configuredipxnet:macaddress
