Just wondered how much of this is on the exam, do I really need to know all the commands to enable different encapsulations on sub interfaces or is the theory enough?
Its a couple of years since I did CCNA but there were probably about 6 or so Questions on IPX. These included default encapsulation types. You need to know at the very least:-
Ethernet II --> arpa
Ethernet 802.2 --> SAP
Ethernet 802.3 --> novell-ether
Ethernet SNAP --> SNAP
You will also need to know how to configure them on an ethernet interface.
Also how to enable IPX routing.
IPX access list number range may be asked.
Also a bit about SAP theory and IPX RIP (how to configure rip, even though it on by default) and what the update timers are etc.
This may have since changed as the world is now becoming IP centric!
According to the newest Cisco CCNA guidelines.. IPX is gone. Along with Token Ring and something else which I've forgotten and I cant find the link I had about it ...
But.. given how IPX is still out there.. it doesnt hurt to at least to know how to enable it and the basics of it.
