Windows update is suggesting I download advanced networking with IPv6.

I am very computer literate, but the online MS docs explaining this whole thing are WAY over my head.

Should I download this update or ignore it? Why or why not?

Thanks your help.

Do you have the link to the MS docs on IPv6?

It is most likely an update to facilitate the move to IPv6 and backward compatability issues with IPv4.

I currently have all the MS updates available (I updated today) and I haven't had any problems with any of it.
However, this only means that I haven't encountered a situation where a problem has presented it self.

Thanks for the reply,

I was reading the MS docs on this, but as i said it was way over my head on what it supposed to do, do I need it as a home user, or only at the server level? This is what I realy don't get from reading MS & was hoping for the "Reader Digest" version here.

I think it would be for both server and clients. Since they both use TC/IP and Ip addressing, then the IPV6 standard would have to be working on both types as well as with the older IPv4. You can download and install it. If you decide you want to dump it later, just write down the update number which will be a hotfix number in add/remove programs and you'll be able to pick it out from the list of software updates you have installed.

Install it and ignore it, or not at all.

It will affect nothing for you at the moment.

This is essentially a public statement by MS of its compliance, and how, for standards purposes. For those it matters, this is an unambiguous statement of support by MS for IPv6; its APIs for Peer-to-Peer communications, and its intentions in the firewall market.

99.8% of all users can safely skip this one.
