We have a customer with an existing VPN using sonic firewalls. We put an IPO 500v2 at each location, each on their own subnet. Without any special programming, the phone systems do not see each other, and you can only ping the gateway of the opposite side from each location. I put IP routes into the IPOs and I can see both units in the manager, and on System Status, each says that the SCN is up, but when you go to make calls between systems, you get an unobtainable. The weird part is that, for a split second, you can see that the system resolved the correct extension name from the other system right before you get the UNOBTAINABLE.

Any ideas? VPN settings blocking the call?

Ask HSM about Sonicwall :)
It does do some H.323 inspect which should be turned off or something simular.
I think he even made a faq about it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

what you mean there is an FAQ section?

There is!

And do you know, it contains answers to queries that crop up regularily?

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

So... un-tick the Enable H.323 Transformations checkbox?

thanks very much, sorry i have never even looked at the FAQs, I figured they were just basic FAQs about posting on the forums. hahaha thanks for the heads up

Have you checked to see if there are short codes routing the numbers across the ip lines?

Yes, even with short codes, it didn't work

We had the same issue. We could only solve all of our problems with a point to point 3Meg T1. Unless your committed to managing that VPN full time. VPN tunnels are ok for phones not for SCN's. If you use a VPN, make sure the customer is paying you a maintenance fee. They will be calling you constantly.

That is rubbish.
We do it over here all the time.
There is nothing wrong with a vpn tunnel.
You need to use a line with QOS and you need to set it up properly and these two things are often done wrong!!!
