IPO 500 V2, R9.0.5, DECT R4, 5 x IP Base Stations, 40 x DECT 3720, 16 x DECT 3725.
Documentation says:
- IP Base Stations
These base stations connect to the IP Office system over the IP LAN. Each IP base station can host up to 8 simultaneous phone conversations in its coverage area.
-68dB Signal strength below which the phone will begin looking for a base station to which it can handover.

What is going on when 9th caller registered on base station where are all 8 channels busy try to make call or somebody try to call him? Will they get busy or may be phone will try to handover to other base station?
Is it a good design 5 x IP Base Station - 56 DECT?

Thanks in advance,
Slobodan

The number of bases you need depends on how much area you need to cover.
If you risk going over 8 simultaneous calls DECT might not be for them.

I had one customer with the old DECT system where we put 2 bases next to each other to get more channels in that area and it worked pretty good, but I don't know how DECT R4 will react to that.

Coverage is one thing, amount of callers is another.
First you need to do a site survey and make a drawing and measure coverage.
When you have determent the coverage then you need to find out how many caller there will be within this coverage.
When needed you need to expand the amount of basestations.
If there are a lot of callers then you will need to add more basestations close to each other.
DECT is a good solution but you have to think, measure and think again.

BAZINGA!

I have to come back again to this topic to clarify myself, if I understand it, when all the channels on a base station are busy, dect phone does not know to be re-registered to another base station to be able to make/receive a call? And when two dect phones registered to the same base station talking, they will occupy two channels?

Thanks for help,

1 the phone will start looking at a different basestation so that is why you must know the amount of caller/calls around the basestations.
If there are more than 8 users around a basestation and there is a big chance that they will all be on the phone then you must add more basestations in that area.
2 Yes but that would be odd as they are nearby :) but this can happen so again when this happens a lot then add more basestations.

On IPBSv1 you could have large external aerials.
Done a few of these with 40-60 handsets and 5 x IPBS that all overlap in a star configuration.
Never gone into congestion after I put in the huge aerials covering up to 600 meters radius.

With the new IPBS's I pretty sure you'd have to double or triple the amount to get the same coverage.
Your biggest problem will be Hunt groups in collective mode, with 16+ members.
If they are gathered in a conference room -> Maxed out on one caller.

Kind regards

Hey Gunnar, IPBSv2 is also available with external antennas.

Funny, I thought so too, but the docs showed no external aerial.

Anyway, if so, get huge antennas. They cost a lot less than an extra IPBS.

Kind regards

I did site survey yesterday, building with two flors. Ground floor, one big room, 25 dects. I will put 2 base stations and these phones will look and at least one other upstairs basestation (one base station 30m). I believe that it will not be a problem, sure all dects will see at least 3 base stations. They will not use hunt group, collective mode.
One more question, I believe that dect phones can be used with mobile twinning. In this case, if an external call comes to DECT phone, mobile twinning is on, two channels will be busy on the base station?

Nope, 1 ch. The twin is done in the IPO .

Kind regards

Gunnar
