Upgraded to 4.0 this weekend.

My users are complaining about poor connections to local calls today (and some incoming LD calls too). It is also raining and we have lots of wire problems on this street so I hope that is it.

The outgoing calls sound "tinny" or high pitched. My own test calls now sound "muffled". My VM inside the building sounds fine, from outside it's "muffled".

Incoming calls now show "External" instead of the caller ID. Although when I call my own direct line it displays the correct caller ID info briefly and then switches to "external". This seems to be on the pots lines only as the Status window shows alarms on the incoming pots lines that don't have a caller ID.

Can the 4.0 IPO software cause "muffled" calls?

check out this thread of something that happened to me last week and see if it helps or sounds the same.

Seems like my ATM16 module has died, although it has the happy green led on.

No calls can come in or go out through it. All the LD calls are going through the T1 just fine but local calls can't get through. Other than connecting a Kmart phone to my primary pots line is there a way to connect the primary pots phone line to my IP 400 Phone16v1 pots module and route the calls to our receptionist?

@onsetcomp

run monitor and make a call
see what happens
the cable that enters the building can also be bad
you did mention that it was raining and there is bad cabling ?
i also believe that you have analog trunks ?
if yes then attache a analog phone and try to make calls

Last night I downgraded to version 3.1(65)(from 4.0) and everything is working again. Although I really liked the 4.0 interface (the System Monitor/status is (was) fantastic for troubleshooting).

The only reason we upgraded was to attempt to get rid of annoying touch-tones being heard while people are on the phone. This seems to happen randomly and people at the reception desk are not pressing buttons during calls for fun. The sales people with headphones on get blasted by the tones but the customers can't hear the tones. I've watched the calls and not found a pattern for T1 calls versus pots lines.

Now that I know it isn't a firmware version problem I'm back to square one but at least all the phone calls are clear and working today.

then my idea is that you did not do the upgrade well
probably the atm16 did not upgrade
also outgoing lines are going thrue ars from 4.0
so there can be a lot that is the problem
but you also can upgrade to 3.2.55 to try to fix your problem
