Hi All

Someone kindly help here, as all I get from support are mixed answers, and this has always been a source of major confusion.

Scenario #1
Have a client running IP500V2 R6.0 w/Preferred Edition, looking to upgrade to 9.1.
I understand we need a 9.1 Upgrade License, but as we know in 6.0 Preferred did not require an essential base.
Will a new essential edition license be needed here to upgrade?

Scenario #2
Have a client running IP500V1 R4.1 w/Preferred Edition, looking to upgrade to 9.1
Will be buying a new IP500V2 and SD Card AS IP500V2 is required for 9.1.
As we know in 4.1 Preferred (Voicemail Pro) did not require an essential base, essential didn't exist.
We know we don't need a 9.1 upgrade license as that comes with the new SD Card & V2.
Will a new essential edition license be needed here to upgrade?

#1 The essential will be generated as a virtual license, but we always add an essential as the virtual license is tied to the chassis and lost if there is a hardware failure. (better to plan ahead)

#2 yes an essential license is required.

As a reminder IP endpoint licenses will also be needed if you have IP phones.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

1. good point you make.
2. noted and thanks.

As for IP endpoint licenses, do VCM Channel Licenses (4 Included with the VCM) still convert to Virtual IP Endpoint Licenses (3 to 1 Ratio)

I was informed by support that VCM Channels convert to IP Endpoint Licenses 1:3 Ratio.
Can someone please confirm this is accurate.

The original VCM32 and 64 cards do give you 12 endpoint licences yes, the V2s don't however hence why they are considerably cheaper :)

As do VCM channel licences yes.....Well they used to, not tried with 9.1 but they haven't mentioned it's changed :)

Still get the IP endpoints for channels in 9.1 as well.

Slightly related got a customer looking to upgrade to 9.1, but they currently have a VCM30 (IP400 version) on a legacy carrier, quite a shock when we told them that in order to upgrade they would need to purchase 78 IP endpoint licences to make up the loss when moving to a normal VCM32v1.

Yes, it's a stinger. As was the release where they moved from VCM channels to endpoints, suddenly instead of just buying 8 VCM channel licences (to account for 12 channels of ISDN30) you needed to buy 80 odd endpoint licences which effectively doubled the system cost....quite a shock to some long standing customers (not every customer works of 1 channel per 3 users Avaya) :)

I don't think the legacy card carrier is supported on 9.1, which would make your VCM and IP license questions irrelevant. looks like you will need a VCM as well.

He doesn't have a legacy card carrier, he wouldn't need VCM channel licences if he had the old style card for the 400 :)
