On a 6500-MSFC, how would I map an IP address to a specific MAC address and why would I want to do this?

Thanks,
Nicole

If you want to know where all your workstations are you can do this . Do a show arp and this will give you both address and mac address and then go to the layer 2 end and do a show cam dyn (mac address ) and this will show what port the mac is on . This on the assumption you are running hybrid and not IOS . If you have switches hung below this unit then you would have to go down to these switches and look for the mac address there and it will give you what port the user is on .

For example, you might need to telnet to a print server to configure it, but out of the box it has no IP. Arp is one way to get to it.
