Can you set the time server to any server on the network or cannot you do that becuase IPO uses a different time protcol? For some reason it is not hitting the VM server on the other side of the T1. Once we change the server time server IP will we have to reboot the server and the phones or neither.

Thanks

yes, i think you will have to reboot, but just the phone system. It should grab it from any pc you point it too. i have never had a problem with it grabbing time from any time server.

you canot use a time server that is located accross a wan as the time server broadcasts and broadcasts are not transmitted accross wan point it to a 2003 /200 / nt server on the same lan and all will be ok

The IPO doesn't use NTP it uses an older time protocol (RFC-868). It will get it's update from any time server supporting this protocol, even on the internet (I have had it doing this for systems not connected to a LAN).

The IPO will broadcast for a time server if you don't specify an address.

Make sure you have the correct IP address set up as a time server and that there is an IP route to it.

How do you know if a server is setup to that time protocol

On another note, is there a filter I can enable on Monitor to see the IPO attempt communications with a Time Server?

I think it is ITP (Internet Time Protocol).

ITP is not as solid as NTP.

129.6.15.28 is a server on the Internet that works. Time is given in GMT so if you are not in the UK then set your time offfset accordingly.

The issue that I am having now is that I have my ip office remote site on a subnet, central site on a subnet, local pc network on a subnet and remote pc network on a subnet. I pointed my ipo(192.168.5.34) (remote side) to a windows 2003 server(192.168.6.45) the routing is working fine can ping both ways. But broadcasts are not going to get through to the server because they are using vlans. What is the best way to work this out. I dont want to have to put a pc on that network just for a time server.

Thanks,

Server did not display clock on taskbar. Once I changed it to display the clock the time changed??????????

SO all is now ok??? Simply having the server display the clock solved the problem??
