I have an older G3si pbx and was tired of dialing into it every time that I wanted to administer it so I came up with the following solution.
I found a software package that will convert rs232 to IP. It's called IPCOM server. It costs $9.99 per station. Here is the link... .
Install this on a PC. I am using an older PII-233, and it works great.
Connect a T-switch between the PBX and the maintenance terminal. Connect the b side of the switch to a com port on the IPCOM computer.
To connect, use whatever software application that you normally use, but connect via telnet at the correct IP address and port.
I can now connect from anywhere on my lan, or VPN in, and connect without needing to dial up.
You don't need the T-switches. I put them in so I can admin it from the PBX if needed.
