can anyone help why we use a secondary ip address for a fastethernet interafce for example?

if i connect to a remote router via telnet and add a secondary ip address on fastethernet interface , my telnet connection will be "stopped"?

I use it as a quick and dirty way to route between two subnets/vlans when I don't have a router that is capable of trunking.
Another application is to add a second subnet in an office where the first one is full.

A secondary address on your fastethernet interface will not affect traffic already going through it, and you will be able to telnet in through either address range.

if i set a primary address and a secondary address for a fastethernet interface and then i decide that i want the primary address to be my secondary.

if a "delete" my primary address will i have problem with my telnet connection?

only the primary address is used for routing protocols as well...

As I understand it, primary and secondary will be included in the routing, as log as there is a network statement for each.

yeah the routing should be in the routing table..
i meant that they wont form adjacenies on the secondary address.. i guess i hit submit before i finished my thought :p
