IP Address Change's

We are about to change the IP address of the entire network. Which means I have to change the IP address’s of the phone systems, dual S8700 CM2.1, Audix, CMS, Witness, and Avaya CTI. Has anyone had to do this?

Can I do the bulk of the moves using the “change node-names ip” command? Are there any other steps that need to be taken? Other then save translation before, and document before hand. And where can I make the other changes?

Any help will be appreciated.

Here is the CMS info.

I had to do it on my CMS R12 last year. This is from my notes.

Login as root and follow these setps:

1) “cd /etc”
2) “chmod 777 hosts” (changes file to Read/write)
3) “vi hosts”
4) change the IP address for the appropriate switch (using vi editing vi commands listed below)
5) ":" to end editing
6) "wq" to save hosts file and exit
7) "chmod 444 hosts" (changes file back to Read-only)

Basic vi editing commands
change mode: esc
insert: i
delete char: x
delete line: dd
end editing: :
end wo saving: q!
end and savie: wq

Remember with CMS and Intuity you may need to change the IP address for CentreVu and Messaging Apps (Message Manager) that reside on client machines, unless you have DNS entries.

For Intuity:
From Main Menu
TCP/IP Administration
Network Addressing
Enter IP Information
Reboot box.

The node-name ip addreess in the switch must be changed. Comm Proc may need to be restarted as well.

Just using 'change node-name ip' is all? Nothing to change in the S8700 web interface?

Don't forget to disable the ip interface before you can change the IP address in the node name form.

Also, if one of the S8700s control network interfaces is on your LAN, you'll need to change the IP address via the browser-based management interface. You'll also need to change the IP address of the corresponding IPSI via its services port.

Phoneguy55 if you edit the /etc/hosts as the root user, to write and quit type :wq! this will write to a read only file. Saves messing about with chmod

I have been struggling with the seemingly simple task of changing the IP address for our Spokane CMS Link to our CMS server located in our OB2 building in another city. I believe that I understand the process quite well, but, have not been able to successfully make the change. The new link just simply will not come up. Changing back was a bit of a challenge, too, until I realized that it will come back if I busy, reset, and release the CLAN board. Also, it appeared that the CMS hosts file needs to have the link not being used "commented out". 98Converter mentions that Comm Proc may need to be restarted as well. I don't know how to do that, unless I already have by virtue of resetting the CLAN board. Our customer has a dual connection set up, and, I am able to ping and traceroute from the CMS to the CLAN when in the new IP configuration (xxx.xxx.200.241/24/gateway .1).

Status on the link looks good. The only thing that looks out of place is that it shows "0" (zero) for the number of channels. This should be "1".

I am so confident in my PBX programming that I feel the problem may be either in the CMS programming (perhaps something further than the /etc/hosts file), or in the customer switch/router configuration. I would like to be sure that I have everything correct on my end before approaching the customer.

For security reasons, the first two octets have been "x"d out. ***************************************************************************************************

Avaya suggested that I do a trace-route from the CLAN board to the CMS server address. His reasoning was that it may make it start working (possibly a routing table addition?). The trace-route worked fine, but, the link still did not come up. All looked good, with the exception of the number of channels shown on the link, which, is zero. So, I'm still looking for an answer.
