I have an Avaya g350 gateway that I need to change the IP address because its going to a new location. It connects back to a 8720 Server at another office. How should I go about changing the IP address on the g350? I can telnet to it and it looks like I can change the IP via the telnet but how does the 8720 get that change?

because the G350 "registers" to a CLAN or to PE (Processor Ethernet), once you change the "PMI" on the G350 (Primary Management Interface), and reboot the G350, you will lose connectivty to it. You could use the "console" serial port on the G350, which is what I would suggest. Don't forget to clear the default gateway, and setup the new one as well.

so if I change the IP on the g350 it will automatically register back to the 8720 (assuming IP network connectivity) and the 8720 will be ok with the change?

yes and no. You will need to reboot the G350, how will you do that, once you change it's IP and can no longer connect to it? This is why I suggested you get out the serial console cable, and plug it into the "Console" port on the G350, and connect the other end to a server or PC's serial port you can get to remotely, you can then use Hyperterminal or Putty to connect to that serial port and have "out of band" management of the device (get to it other than the ethernet interface)

You could connect a modem, dial up to it and run the installation wizard from the web browser... This way when you change the IP address, it won't drop the connection.

Thank guys for the help. I ended up setting up the eth 10/2 port (WAN) with an IP, moved the PMI to the WAN and changed the IP on the LAN port via the WAN. Moved PMI back and changed the gateway. Up and working beautifully now.

Thanks again.
