IP Address 10.10.1.1 when makign a domain controller

I have a test server setup with an IP address of 192.168.0.2. I install AD onto it as the only server, which installs fine, but changes the IP address to 10.10.1.1.

I go to the TCP/IP settings and change the IP address back, but thereafter cannot access anything in the domain, eg user accounts.

Microsoft refer to this in Q252356, but I am unsure how to fix this as their solution is vague. Can anyone give me more information.

I think the key here is running DCPROMO from the command-line to promote/demote the server to/from domain controller. If you do this via 'Configure the Server', you increase the likelihood of running into Microsoft-based-weirdness, like you've just described:

On the server in question-
1. Do Start, Run..., DCPROMO <Enter> and follow the options to remove AD
2. Reset you IP address and test
3. Do Start, Run..., DCPROMO <Enter> and add Active Directory.
It should work fine now.

Do you have two NIC cards installed on the server of something. It is not possible for the IP address to change by itself...? When did you notice that the IP address just suddenly changes?


Do IPCONFIG /all from cmd line. If this displays more than one IP address, you have more than one NIC....disable the 10.x.x.x nic and you should be back running again. Joseph L. Poandl
