IP 500 4.1 How to reset the Administrator password 3

I have a customer with a forgotten Administrator password. I have the config file. How can I change or reset the password without the DTE option? Thanks.

what i have done in the past is take the config off and open it in 3.1 manager. then use Snadboy to see the password. with 3.1 the system password was right in the system settings and not hidden behind the security settings.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Will a 4.1 config be viewable with 3.1 Manager?

Can not be done this way.
You have two options.

1) DTE -> security reset
2) Try to reset the security settings

Login:

security
securitypwd

If default then you ar elucky otherwise you need to use the DTE.

Well I used the Snadboy, and it revealed the password as Administrator, but Administrator does not work. Thank you Kevin, that's a nifty piece of software.

So I sniffed around on TekTips, and thanks tlpeter, and found this:

Procedure: Defaulting Security Settings
This process defaults the IP Office's security settings but does not alter its configuration settings.

1.

Attach the serial cable between the PC and the DTE port on the IP Office control unit.
2.

Start the terminal program on your PC. Ensure that it has been setup as listed in DTE Port Settings. Within a HyperTerminal session, the current settings are summarized across the base of the screen.
3.

Enter AT (note upper case). The control unit should respond OK.
4.

Enter AT-SECURITYRESETALL.
5.

You will be prompted to confirm the control unit's MAC address before continuing. Enter the address.
6.

The control unit will respond OK when the action has been completed.
7.

Close the terminal program session.
8.

Manager can now be used to receive and edit the control unit's now defaulted security settings.

I'm assuming once this is done, when I use Administrator for login and Administrator for the password, all will be good?

First try the security reset withing manager.
If the password is default then there is no need for the DTE.

Why not just go into the security settings first (unless they've changed and forgotten that password also) and just create a new admin account.
 
I just tried the Security reset, but that password is changed as well.

BTW the previous vendor has the p.w. and won't give it to the customer. I believe they owe him $$.

Then DTE is your only option.
Better setup a maintenance contract with the customer if they pay badly !
