IOS re-install Cisco 805

I am wondering if anyone can help

One of my frieds deleted the ios of a 805 router. I douwnloaded the latest version of the ios from Cisco and booted the router to the boot# and

set unit ip
set netmask
set serv ip and saved this config but the router is not pingable from my laptop the link light comes on but nothing else.

I need to be able to ping the router so the router can up load the config from the tftp server

Does anyon know why I can not ping the router ?

could be wrong ip, make sure ips are right and in the same subnet. since the light is on, I suspect duplex is fine.
use croxxover overcable between router and computer.
