I'm afraid that I already know, but: Is there an IOS version for the 4500M router which supports keepalive packets on a tunnel interface?
All that I can find on Cisco's site is that as of 12.2(8)T, "This feature was introduced on several platforms. The keepalive command was modified to make it available for use on tunnel interfaces."
But, no go with the latest version (12.2(23)) that I can find, and I can't find 12.2(8)T for the 4500M. Later versions, like 12.3(1) for the 1700 (which is on the other side of the tunnel) support this.
Any ideas? I may just have another reason to retire the 4000-series routers around here.
Thanks.
Lee.
