We have a directory that is not displaying all of its files. There are no permissions at this directories level and the other directories above and on this level (all inherited rights) are working correctly. I have run DSrepair, but no effect. I saved a file to the directory which appeared to be successful, but the file never is never listed. I then tried to save as (with same location and name) and was informed that the file already exists. The only restrictive attributes for the parent directory are rename inhibit and delete inhibit. I can't see the files in Explorer, DOS, or even File open/Lock activity in the server's monitor. There server is NW5.1 SP7 w/ eDirectory 8.6.2. Any help is greatly appeciated.

Thanks

Are you viewing the directory with an account that has Supervisor Access to the [root] of your tree? It really sounds like you are accessing it with a non-admin account and the account does not have File Scan permissions.

You may want to try dismounting/mounting the volume to see if that helps, or running a Vrepair.

I ran NDIR and DIR from an Admin equivilent account. I actually saw 1 more file with DIR (and Explorer_ than I did with NDIR. Unfortunately this is our main project data server and our main project volume with deadlines which don't give me any time to dismount the volume right now. The other issue is that the volume is NSS and, if I remember correctly, vrepair doesn't work on NSS volumes (though I may be wrong...it wouldn't be the first time). Open to suggestions.

Thanks

yep you are correct vrepair is for traditional volumes

if you are certain that your problems arent rights related then you do need to use the nss tools - a dsrepair will do nothing assuming you ds is in sync etc

do you see the files in console1?

I don't see the files in Console1 or in Open/Lock files in the server's console.

your into the nss verify's etc - i would check out the tids on these procedures - they aint as forgiving as vrepair

Do your files contain UNICODE symbols (foreign letters or the like in other words)?

As far as I know everything was in standard English.
