Our website is hosted by a ISP. We're trying to setup an IIS server on-site. I installed the server NT 4.0/IIS 4.0. I loaded the html & image files. I have a Win98 workstation. I added my ip and ws name to the lmhosts file on NT. I thought I was accessing the website from NT but I shutdown the server and I can still access the website. How can I test my webpage on the IIS server.

Don't add the entries to lmhosts -- that is only used by Microsoft-specific networking. Add the entries to hosts. ______________________________________________________________________

I just thought about something. If I'm using this server as a DHCP server. How can I add the entries? If ip address are renew/release all the time. Do I have to add entries to the hosts file inorder to view my webpage?

If the workstation changes ip as it reconnects to the network it will still be able to connect to the website/local on the IIS 4.0 as the IIS 4.0's ip will still be in the hosts file on the Win98 workstation. Just make sure the NT Server acting as a DHCP server has a static ip address that remains unchanged. Remember, life is what you make it.

Thanks,,,

How can I test in-house..intranet website if we have an ISP hosting our DNS site?
