Intranet/Internet DNS Problem 1

We have a win2k domain running with its own Intranet site, users also have Internet access. The DNS service is set to forward any requests it cannot handle out to our ISP DNS servers.

The problem I have is that our win2k domain name is the same as our domain name on the Internet (hosted by our ISP). Therefore, when people put in our domain name in their browsers, they get back an error page saying it can't be found.

Basically it is not going out on to the internet but trying to resolve it internally.

I have gone through all the DNS and IIS settings but can't find away round this problem. Does any one have any clues please.

Have you tried adding a Forward lookup record on your local DNS server, mapping the

http://www.domain.com

address to it's IP address??
Not sure if this will work but worth a try.

Sorry to be a pain, but where in the DNS settings should I add this new host, in my existing forward lookup zone? I have tried entering it there but it still gives the existing name as the name server, I can't change it to www.

Should I setup a new zone?

It needs to be under the forward lookup zone named after you domain. You would say "Add new HOST", name it WWW, and then enter the IP for the external site.

in my sites forward lookup zone did the trick.
