Intersting problem with InCD

Have a known good Aopen 40x12x48 INT CDRW.
Runs Nero 5.5 etc, Win98SE (patched to the max)
UDF reader no problem
Nero Burn no problems...burns CDs with no errors and verify is fine.

ADD InCD...instant problem.

No error message, just not responding and freezes boot until I turn it off in task manager.

I am a hardware tech, and so I KNOW the hardware is fine.
I know about updates to software and have tried all that.
In order to get rid of the boot problems I had to uninstall the whole lot and pick bits out of the registry and do a fresh reinstall.

Wondering if anyone has anything similar with InCD?
Known issues etc. with any software?
It worked for a while on that machine, with the odd mounting error etc.
I was using preformatted CDs so I reformatted hoping that would resolve it.

Can burn fine, no rewrite....[nosmiley] Kimber

Have you checked for any applicable firmware updates for that drive? Mudskipper

Groucho said it best- "A four year-old child could understand this!
Quick! Run out and find me a four year-old child: I can't make heads nor tails out of this!"

Yes...been there done that. I will check again just to be sure, but thank you for the suggestion.

I have been messing with hardware since ...ahem...anyways a VERY long time. (Not as long as some...but long enough. No trumping my dates...lol)

This one has me stumped. It must be either a bug in software not working together or something I have missed.
I have never seen InCD just not respond on boot and have to be dissed....
I know for sure I am virus free and the hardware is good...and so...

PULLING MY HAIR OUT.

To make things worse....it's not even a client's machine...its MINE... Kimber

Sounds like the problem I am having with a Sony 48/12/48 drive. It came with B's Recorder and B's Clip. B's Clip is InCD under another name. Loading either B's Clip or B's Recorder locks up PC solid. Solutions from B's Clip web site ( are:

1. Uninstall any previous installation of Adaptec DirectCD

2. Make sure that original Windows supplied version ATAPA.SYS is back in place (they have utility to do this)

Unfortunately doesn't work for me!

I have been able to get Nero working but not InCD.

Just like my prob.
I was thinking it was the drive, but there are others that are having the same problem, and my drive is listed as compatible.
I am stumped so far.
If I find a fix I will post it here.

(fingers crossed) Kimber

I have win98se and a MSI CD-RW and use Nero-BR but do not install InCD and everything works fine. Do you actaully need it installed?

No, you don't need it installed if you don't use it. It's for using the burner like a floppy drive. You can drag and drop files to a CDR or CD-RW. Jim

Does anyone else have this problem with InCd on a system?
If so, please post details here.
I have so far found that the built in XP stuff causes problems as well, but nothing that pertains to my problem.
The burner works fine. The RW feature for drag/drop does not.
As soon as InCd is installed I have problems to the point I have to uninstall the whole mess and start over again.

Any other suggestions welcome at this point.
Not using it is not an option. I already owned a writer, and needed another one. If I can't get this to go I will have to get another one. I just don't want to run into the same thing again, or find out it is a software or compatibility issue.

Are you using InCD version 3.5.22.0.b ? The "b" tells me they had a problem with the previous version.

Nero version 5.5.10.15 has a serious problem with Win 98. They just came out with version 5.5.10.15a
to fix it. I installed the bad version and it locked up my systen with BSODs. The "a" version fixed it, so maybe they had a similar problem with InCD and the "b" version fixed it.
