hi,
i have a wireless router with a sat modem connected to it. my laptops used to display an internet connection icon, in addition to the wireless connection icon in notification area. however, today, one of the laptops quit display the icon. and the other one shows packets received on "my computer", but nothing on the gateway. my question is, how does this icon appear and disappear? how can you make it apprea again? and show the correct packets.
thanks.

Go to Start >Control Panel >Network Connections >right-click the particular LAN connections and select 'Properties' >at the bottom of the General tab there is an option that says "Show icon in notification area when connected" is this checked?

Not sure how it disappears, but you can make it appear by right-click properties on the connection and tick "show in taskbar when connected".

Sorry IllogicallyLogical, same time posts...

when i go to network connection, this connection is not there to click. i can see lan/high speed connection, the wireless connection, but this "internet gateway connection" is not there. so, obviously, i can't right click it. any ideas?
