Situation:
XP machine IE 6.0. When I select 'Remember Passwords', the machine doesn't remember the passwords.

IE Tools, Internet Settings
Content Menu
AutoComplete - all boxes checked.

Anyone come accross this problem?
Something in the registry?
Some cache setting?

All sites and only just this one machine with Home Edition of XP.

All other machines I have ever used, including other home editions the system works fine - passwords are remembered but its one machine and all sites.

For issues with the protected storage service:

Other possible solutions:

Method 1: Verify That AutoComplete Is Turned On
====
1. Start Internet Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Content tab. Under Personal information, click AutoComplete.
3. In the AutoComplete Settings dialog box, select the User names and passwords on forms check box (if it is not already selected), select the Prompt me to save passwords check box (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
4. Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer, and then determine if the issue is fixed.

Method 2: Verify That the Protected Storage Service Is Running
====
1. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type Services.msc, and then click OK.
2. In the Name list, locate Protected Storage. Note the Status column. If Protected Storage is running, Started will appear under Status.
3. If Protected Storage is not started, start it. To do this, right-click Protected Storage, and then click Start. The Protected Storage service starts.
4. If Protected Storage is started, stop and then restart it. To do this, follow these steps:
5. Close the Services snap-in.
6. Restart Internet Explorer, and then determine if the issue is fixed.

Method 3: Check registry:
====
1. Click Start->Run, type "regedit" without the quotation marks and then press Enter.
2. Locate the following key and click to highlight it:
3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
4. In the right panel, please check if the two values exist. If so, please make certain that both of these data are "yes". If these two values do not exist, please right click the blank area in the right panel and then click
New->String Value to create them.

Method 4: Create a New User
====
1. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type control userpasswords, and then click OK.
2. Click Create a new account and follow the wizard to create an administrative user account.
3. Log off the current user and then log on as the new user.

Also, in your connection properties, make sure "Client for Microsoft Networks" is installed and enabled.

Many web pages remember your ID with a cookie. If you have cookies disabled (or blocked for that particular site), passwords won't be remembered.

I don't think this applies to Autocomplete, but if there's a box on a web page saying "Remember me" or "Remember password", it's doing that with a cookie.
