With Internet Explorer v7.0 on my computer, for this past week, if I try to open a link in a new tab, Internet Explorer freezes and I have to use Task Manager to end the task. If I open the link in a new Window, the link opens without a problem in the new window.

I tried deleting temporary internet files and cookies but that did not help.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Have you tried running IE with No Add-ons. Go to Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). If the problem does not occur when running in this mode you will need to figure out which add-on is causing you trouble. One way to go about this is to open IE and click Tools> Manage Add-ons> Enable or Disable Add-ons... Disable all add-ons and enable them one by one to try to isolate the issue. You should restart IE after you enable each individual add-on to see if the symptom returns. This way you will know which add-on is causing the problem. Also, if you have a toolbar installed, such as Google or Yahoo toolbar, make sure you have the most up to date version.

Try a reset of IE7: tools / internet options / advanced / bottom right reset

hope it helps

I had the same problem. Schtek's solution worked. Thanks!

I have had this problem for a while now but then I was told to REMOVE the 'google toolbar for internet explorer' from applications (add/remove software) and I dont have the problem anymore (probably joey's solution) - I had defaulted to firefox where this problem didn't exist.
I haven't tried adding google toolbar back yet.
I couldn't find where this specific solution is online.
