Internet Explorer Application Error on NT4 server

I have an NT4 server on SP6a that has no problems running IE4.x - however after an upgrade to IE5.x, starting IE results in an Access Violation error.

Same error if you click on the Connections tab in IE5's properties.

Solutions most appreciated, thanks
